Utica Comets’ Bobby Sanguinetti Signs with Buffalo Sabres
The Utica Comets will play without Bobby Sanguinetti next season.
Sanguinetti, a defenseman and alternate captain for the Utica Comets, signed a one year, two-way contract with the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres' AHL affiliate is the Rochester Americans.
Sanguinetti was a first-round draft pick for the New York Rangers in 2006 and later signed with the Carolina Hurricanes before joining the Vancouver Canucks' AHL team, the Utica Comets.
Sanguinetti was one of three Comets representing the team as a member of the 2015 AHL All Stars.
Sanguinetti will be missed by the Comets and the community. According to the AHL's website, theAHL.com, Sanguinetti's "...40 points (16 goals, 24 assists) in 2014-15 led all Comets defensemen and tied for ninth among all AHL blueliners....[He} led all AHL defensemen in 2014-15 with six game-winning goals and his team-high plus-24 rating tied for eighth in the league. During the Comets' run to the 2015 Calder Cup Finals, Sanguinetti recorded three goals and 11 assists for 14 points in 23 games, again leading all AHL defensemen."
On July 1, 2015 the Vancouver Canucks signed defenseman Taylor Fedun. Fedun, who has played with the Edmonton Oilers, played mostly recently with the San Jose Sharks and their former AHL affiliate, the Worcester Sharks. It is not known if Fedun will spend any time on the ice with the Comets.
