We Are Observing A Moment Of Silence This Morning In Honor Of Victims Of Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting In Newtown, Connecticut

Marcy, NY (WIBX) - Although many are saying that December 21, 2012 marks the Apocalypse, the parents and families of the victims of last week's shooting in Connecticut will tell you that last Friday felt like the end of their world.

Although we try to maintain our objectivity and professionalism in reporting and during our broadcasting, many of us have had a challenging time getting through these stories without the throat-tightening feeling that must certainly feel suffocating to those with direct connections to the massacre. And, although we have all been trying, there is nothing that we can say to mend the senselessly horrific loss of life.

Broadcasters are in the business of sharing sound. But for once, we will be encouraging the absence of it.

WIBX, along with our sister stations Big Frog 104, Lite 98.7, and Oldiez 96.1, will be observing a moment of silence at 9:30 this morning in honor of the victims of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

That is the time that a shooter killed twenty children and six adults last Friday, December 14, 2012. The victims' names appear below. Out of respect for those being honored, this reporter is not including the shooter's name, or other links, in this particular post.

Places of worship and buildings with bells are being asked to ring them twenty-six times today. Many websites will go "dark" for one minute during that time as well.
