Founder of the extremely controversial Westboro Baptist Church, Fred Phelps Sr., has died. It was originally reported by the Huffington Post article, that Phelps was close to death. The original report came in the form of a Facebook post by Phelp’s estranged son Nathan Phelps. Here is the post from Nathan Phelp’s Facebook page:

Many of the comments on this post were in hatred for the dying pastor.

Nathan Phelps left the church and his family for California when he was 18 years old. Now he lives in Calgary, Alberta. During his time living under the rules of his father and the church, he claims he was physically abused and now he is an active LGBT activist and speaks out against abuse and religion, this according to the BIO page on his personal website.

The news of his passing also came from his son. Phelps passed away last night.
