Utica, NY (WIBX) - Three children and their mother were killed in a morning fire on Schuyler Street in West Utica.

It happened at 935-937 Schuyler Street, however the occupants of 937 Schuyler were able to safely escape, according to Fire Chief Russ Brooks.

The call came in at around 9:30 a.m., and firefighters responded to find one of the apartments fully engulfed, he said.

An infant, two year old and four year old, along with their mother were found dead inside the home.

No names have been released at this point.

Brooks says the tragedy has devastated the neighborhood. When a WIBX reporter responded to the scene, dozens of family members and neighbors could be seen crying and embracing.

An investigation into the cause is underway.
