The Boilermaker Mile, which was scheduled to debut on July 8th at Proctor Park, has been canceled due to lack of participation.

President Tim Reed says they had expected a couple of hundred runners to sign up, but by the deadline, only a handful had registered.

Reed says while it's disappointing, they're committed to trying again next year.

The event was formerly called the Road Runner Mile and focused on top high school and college milers from the area.

The reformulated event was to focus on getting community members involved.

Those who signed up will get a refund on their entry fee.

The 37th running of the Boilermaker will take place on Sunday, July 13th.
