Utica, NY (WIBX) - This Saturday, January 7th, runners can begin to register for the 35th running of the Boilermaker Road Race. Last year the 15K race reached its runner capacity on May 14th, and organizers suggest those interested in taking part in this year's event, begin the registration process early. This year officials say they are increasing the cap for the 15K race from 13,000 to 14,000 runners. The 5K race will maintain its cap at 4,000.

Also, on-line registration fees for the 15k will remain at $35, while the fee for the 5k will increase from $20 to $25. The Three Mile Walk application fee will remain at $15. Another change to look for this year, is the elimination of a late registration fee for all participants.

From 8:00 a.m. to Noon, this Saturday, participants can begin the paper registration process at the New Hartford Planet Fitness. A $2 registration fee is required. And, to celebrate the opening of Boilermaker registration, organizers say there will be a fireworks display at dusk from the P.J. Green Parking Lot on Whitesboro street in Utica. The 35th running of the Boilermaker Road Race will take place on Sunday July 8th.
