The New York State Comptroller's Office has released an audit of the Westmoreland School District.

The audit found that over the last three fiscal years, the district spent nearly $5 million less than planned and did not use any of the appropriated fund balance that it budgeted to finance operations.

The Comptroller's Office recommends the school board develop a plan to reduce the amount of unrestricted fund balance in a manner that benefits district taxpayers.

School District officials say they generally agree with the recommendations and plan to take corrective action.
