Fire crews were up early Thursday responding to a fire at Peterson's Exotic Pets in on North James Street in Rome.

Oneida County 911 call logs show the report of a structure fire came in at about 4:15 a.m. The building is located at 100 North James Street. WIBX was told that occupants in the apartments above the pet shop were able to make it out safely. However, we're told none of the animals in the pet shop survivied.

According to its Facebook page, Peterson's Exotic Pets has been open since November of 1969.

Additionally, the building that housed the former Ballisters Bistro, which closed nearly two years ago, was also damaged by the fire.
