Utica, NY (WIBX) - For all of his hard work and service to the community, George Aney will be honored with the Good Scout Award.

The dinner is scheduled to take place on May 5th at Francesca’s in Ilion. Nearly 200 business and community leaders plan to attend and honor Mr. Aney for his ongoing work.

Aney, a 1960 graduate of Syracuse University’s College of Law, has served on numerous boards in the area including the Central New York Chapter of the American Heart Association, the Herkimer County Humane Society and the Central New York Community Arts Council.

The award, presented annually by the Boy Scouts of America, Revolutionary Trails Council, goes to a person who demonstrates selfless concern for their community while setting a good example. Previous winners include Raymond Meier, Anthony Picente and Chris Destito.

The organization says Aney was chosen because of his “on-going support of educational programs, youth initiatives and his long-time support of Scouting.” Aney’s previous work with the community has garnered him numerous awards. Among them are the Herkimer Veterans of Foreign Wars Good Citizen of the Year Award, the American Red Cross Great Hero Award and the B’Nai B’rith Community Service Award.

Attendees at the Good Scout Leadership feature keynote speaker United States Congressman Richard Hanna, and the Honorable Sylvia Rowan serving as chairperson of the dinner.

The Revolutionary Trails Council expects to raise more than $40,000 in funds at the event to help disadvantaged urban and rural youth participate in Scouting. Each year, the group provides assistance to more than 2,000 youths across six counties.
