An longtime employee of Herb Philipson's Army and Navy Stores is now buying the nearly 70-year-old sporting and outdoors retailer. Guy Viti, the company's current president of merchandising and operations, is the buyer and will take over ownership with nearly four decades of experience with Philipson's.

“My mother and I could not be happier than to see the sale of Herb Philipson’s to Guy Viti. Guy started working for my father thirty seven years ago and has worked with me for most of my career.  We know the company and its Three Hundred and Forty plus employees are in good hands with our friend and co-worker Guy Viti. I’m sure there will be many new and exciting developments for the company under the ownership of Mr. Viti,' Gary Philipson said in a news release announcing the sale.

In that same release, Viti thanked the Philipson's and said he had great plans for the company's nine locations. ''The best is yet to come,'' Viti said.

Herb Philipson's Army and Navy Stores opened in 1951 in Rome, NY and currently operate nine locations in Rome, New Hartford, Oneida, Herkimer, Liverpool, Newark, Oswego, DeWitt and Watertown.
