Herkimer Favorite Named Best Upstate New York’s Diner

Crazy Otto's Empire Diner in Herkimer was awarded the Reader's Choice title of Best Upstate New York Diner.

The local favorite has been around since 1952; 65 years ago the owners came from New Jersey to start up the Empire Diner. It's packed floor to ceiling with unique memorabilia including photos, movie posters and license plates that give it a vintage feel.

The owner, Scott Tranter, believes "It's really a privilege and an honor" to receive this award. Since opening the diner has had solid support from the community and beyond. Regular customers boast huge portions, friendly staff and the inviting atmosphere.

New York Upstate's website invited readers to vote on their favorite diners to decide winners. Crazy Otto's Empire Diner was also voted as having the Best Hollandaise Sauce, Best Bacon, Best Pie Crust and tied for the best atmosphere.
