Marcy Correctional Officer Victim Of Latest Prison Assault

A correction officer was treated at a local emergency room this week after she was assaulted by an inmate at the Marcy Correctional Facility.

The New York State Correctional Officer and Police Benevolent Association says the attack is the latest in a series of inmate-on-staff assaults that have happened since January 1st.

According to the latest data released by the state Department of Correctional Services, there were 58 assaults between January 1st and February 4th.

The union says if correction staff continue to be assaulted at this alarming rate, there will be a 16% increase in assaults over last year.
