Mercedes Sets Record for Most Expensive Luxury Car Auctioned in Arizona

A seventy-eight-year-old car is making history as the most expensive car ever sold at auction in Arizona.

The 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster originally sold for a hefty $12,000 when it was delivered to the United States after it was built.

On Friday, January 29, 2015 the car sold for $9.9 million at the RM Sotheby's collector car auction.

According to a post by Parker Leavitt of the Arizona Republic the anticipated selling price of the vehicle was between $10 and $13 million.
