Chicago, IL (WIBX) - A Minnesota photographer is dead after falling down a smokestack at the InterContinental Hotel in Chicago, Illinois.

He was taking pictures at the top of the hotel located at 505 North Michigan Avenue, along the Magnificent, or "Mag," Mile when he reportedly lost his balance.

A Chicago fire official is quoted as saying that it took about four hours and more than one hundred firefighters to remove the man, who was able to speak with his girlfriend before he succumbed to his injuries at 5:15am on December 13, 2012.

His identity has not been released pending notification of his family.
