Utica, NY (WIBX) - The white powder covered cars parked outside but there were no reports of damages or injuries after the Ansul system was activated at a Hess Gas Station in Utica.

Deputy Fire Chief John Kelly said the fire system was activated by mistake between 8:15pm and 8:30pm this evening, apparently by an employee.  The Utica Fire Department had the situation under control in a matter of minutes.

The station, located at 2638 Genesee Street in Utica, will remain closed for a few hours until the area can be cleaned thoroughly.  Deputy Chief Kelly says that the material is not hazardous.

Some can take solace at least in knowing, for certain, that the system works.
