ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Temporary lane closures at road and bridge construction sites on New York state highways won't be permitted over the upcoming holiday weekends.

The temporary bans will run from 6 a.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Tuesday on both the Christmas and New Year's weekends.

The move is being made to make it easier for motorists to get around during the busy year-end holiday travel weekends.

The American Automobile Association predicts that more than 103 million people will travel more than 50 miles from home during the year-end holiday season. That would be the most on record, and the vast majority will be driving.
