CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland's public transit agency says a bus driver was attacked by a man who stepped onboard and began swinging a sock that was stuffed with a brick or a rock.

The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority says the driver stopped to pick up the passenger in the wee hours Sunday and was struck repeatedly in the head, neck and shoulders.

The Northeast Ohio Media Group reports the injured woman was treated at a hospital and released.

It wasn't clear what happened to the attacker, who wasn't in custody.

RTA officials said no further information about the case was immediately available.
