Utica, NY (WIBX) - The early morning fire that destroyed a long standing establishment is still under investigation while fire fighters continue to work on what they refer to as, "hot spots." Manny's Cheesecake & Bakery has been in business for 43 years according to the owner, Richard Alpert. He says he was woken up by a phone call from his baker about the fire. Here he is talking about the incident that he says shook his children.

Meanwhile Mayor David Roefaro issued this statement about the early morning fire, "Whether it has been their hallmark chocolate chip cookie or their world famous cheesecake, Manny's has been a signature brand for desserts and cakes across the Mohawk Valley for decades . I am committed to investigating this fire and working personally with the Manny's cheesecake family to either rebuild their current facility or move to another within the City of Utica. I would also like to commend our fire department for its quick action in controlling this blaze."
