The Stampede Steakhouse, formerly Joel's in Verona, has been destroyed in an early morning fire. Several fire departments from Oneida and Madison county were called to the scene.

The blaze broke out around 4am Sunday, January 10th. Tankers were still being called to the scene at 6am, but the building is a total loss according to CNY Fire.

As flames and sparks shot into the sky, explosions could be heard in a video Warren Lewis II captured at the scene.

The landmark restaurant opened in 1965 as Joel's Steakhouse. The restaurant became the Stampede Steakhouse in 2014.

The iconic bull that sat out front at the corner of Routes 365 and 31 was saved.
