Thomas DiNapoli is sending his office staff all across New York to help people find out if they have unclaimed money coming their way. A two day event is coming to Rome and people of Central New York can attend to see if the state has cash that belongs to them.

DiNapoli's office released a schedule of the days and time his employees will be here to assist. The dates are set for Saturday, April 29th and Sunday, April 30th. The event is taking place at the JFK Civic Arena on 500 West Embargo Street in Rome.

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapol says,

I encourage everyone to come out and search for money that may be waiting for them. We return more than $1.5 million a day to residents across the state, but we want to do more. It’s your money, we want to give it back.

The majority of unclaimed funds come from old bank accounts, utility deposits, insurance claims and more. Some of these funds date back to the 1940s. If you can't attend the event, you can use the online claiming system. You can also call anytime at 1-800-221-9311.

This event taking place in Rome is one of the only like it outside of New York City.
