JASNA, Slovakia (AP) — Strong winds have forced organizers to cancel the women's World Cup giant slalom event on Saturday.

They initially postponed the race by an hour and lowered the start gate but called off the event after conditions failed to improve.

A slalom on the same course is scheduled for Sunday.

The International ski federation said earlier there was an option to move one of this weekend's races to Monday but there was no immediate confirmation of a rescheduling.

The Slovakian venue of Jasna is hosting its first World Cup event in 32 years. It's the final weekend of technical races before the World Cup finals in St. Moritz, Switzerland, in two weeks.
