The Herkimer County Office for the Aging is warning residents of a telephone scam that's been taking place in Herkimer County.

They says several older adults have reported that someone claiming to be from Medicare has called their home and asked for their name, age and Social Security number.

The caller was calling from a number in Adams, New York.

Officials say residents should never give personal information to anyone who calls on the phone posing to be from Medicare or any other government agencies.

They say these agencies do not call to ask for this information and if you receive a call like this, just hang up.

If you need additional information on scams or other questions please contact the Herkimer County Office for the Aging/NY Connects at 315-867-1121.
