The National Weather Service in Binghamton is cautioning that warmer, dry weather is again heightening the danger of wildfires in the Twin Tiers.

NOAA says May 2 will be another day with conditions potentially favorable for the spread of wildfires due to a combination of gusty winds and

low humidity values. Winds for the next several days are expected to be between 7 and 13 miles per hour.  The winds not only can fan flames from fires, but also serve to further dry out the brush and debris. Scattered thunderstorms Thursday also may contain gusty winds.

There is still a ban on burning brush in New York State until May 14.  It is also illegal to burn garbage at any time in New York.
