Three Charged In Fire At Vacant Building In Verona

Three people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in starting a fire at a vacant building on Germany Road in Verona early Tuesday morning.

The building is located on Oneida Indian Nation land and was formerly known as the old US Air Force Test Site.

Oneida Nation Police have charged 23-year old Thomas Taverne, Jr. of Durhamville and an unidentified 17-year old from Canastota with arson.

21-year old John Rathbun of Verona is charged with criminal trespass.

Multiple area volunteer fire departments battled the fire.

Oneida Nation Police were assisted in their investigation by members from the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control.
