The winter weather advisory in effect for Tuesday has now been extended.The National Weather Service says a winter weather advisory from Monday, February 15, 2016 will now remain in effect until Tuesday night at 7:00pm.

Freezing rain and sleet that turns to snow is expected throughout Central New York, particularly in the northern Finger Lakes region and the southern Tug Hill Plateau.

Trace ice that may accumulate to a couple of hundredths of an inch throughout the morning.  Snow accumulation of two to five inches may pile up on top of that ice late this afternoon into the early evening hours.

The NWS says travel conditions may be hazardous, especially on untreated surfaces this morning.  According to a statement posted by the service, "(t)he combination of snow... ice...and gusty winds cold also cause isolated power outages."  Winds up to 30mph are also possible.

Drivers should be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibility.  Extreme caution is to be used while driving.
