Wrong Way Driver Injures Herself, Another Driver In Route 49 Crash

Marcy, NY (WIBX) - Two people are injured following an accident on Route 49 involving a wrong way driver.

State Police say Karen Farmer, 56, entered Route 49 from State Route 291, driving past several wrong way signs in the process.

While traveling westbound in the eastbound lane, she forced Michael Davis, of Utica, to swerve and avoid her. His car then struck a guide rail.

She was later involved in a head-on collision with Christopher Staats, who was unable to avoid her vehicle.

Farmer received multiple internal injuries and was taken to Saint Elizabeth Medical Center. Staats was also taken to the hospital with a left knee injury.

Farmer has been cited for vehicle and traffic law violations.

State Police say the investigation is ongoing.
