Utica Man Charged With Breaking Into Sunset Avenue Home

A Utica man is facing several charges for allegedly breaking into a home on the 1600 block of Sunset Avenue.

Police say a woman woke up to find 38-year old Richard Smith inside her home.

They say Smith told the woman that someone was trying to kill him.

The woman told police Smith stood in her way as she tried to get her two children from their beds.

When the man went into the bedroom, she grabbed her children and ran downstairs to the living room and was met by the officers.

Smith was charged with burglary, unlawful imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child.
