New York, NY (WIBX) - According to a new poll by The New York Times and CBS News, seven in ten Americans say they support the plan to end Saturday mail delivery in order to save the United States Postal Service money.

The USPS is losing about $36 million a day.

U.S. Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe says, "The results show Americans understand and accept that moving to a five-day delivery schedule is part of the solution."  However, critics such as the National Newspaper Association's Tonda Rush say, "It does no good for last week's newspaper to arrive on a Monday."

Both houses of Congress are working on ways to save the Postal Service some money, but efforts are largely stuck in committee as legislators balance the benefits of saving the country money with impending job losses for thousands of postal employees.
