Utica, NY (WIBX) - The Downtown Utica Development Association wants to bring art back to the downtown area, while promoting the sale of the city's vacant buildings.

DUDA is partnering with GOCAL.com to promote the "Art in Windows" project.

The goals of the program are to call attention to the city's vacant buildings, introduce local artists to the community and increase downtown foot traffic.

Rod Wilson is part of DUDA's marketing committee. He says artists of any background may submit pieces for the project.

"We really want to get a great cross-representation of what Utica is. What its people are, what its artists have to represent. So, yeah, we're open to everything."

Artists of any type are encouraged to visit DUDA's Facebook page for more information. Currently, Sculpture Space has shown interest in the project and will occupy at least one store front on Genesee Street.

Applications will be accepted until July 31st for fall exhibits. To apply, visit DUDA's Facebook page or email the group at downtownuticany@gmail.com.

The program is set to debut September 1st.
