Many local legislators are reacting to the latest announcement of the 122 layoffs at Remington Arms in Ilion.

Assemblyman Marc Butler is one of those who is taking action. He will be holding a rally in support of his legislation to repeal the Safe Act Thursday evening in Johnstown. Butler believes that policies of progressives in New York City are to blame for the layoffs.

In a statement reacting to the Remington Arms layoffs Butler says,

I am saddened to hear of the news regarding layoffs at Remington Arms. My thoughts are with the workers and their families during this difficult time. I cannot help but think that the anti-Second Amendment, anti-sportsmen and anti-business culture perpetuated by New York City progressives in state policy is making the atmosphere very difficult for this historic company. This company is a very important source of jobs for our district, and is a part of our regional identity.

Butler also said that he has been assured that these layoffs do not represent any reconfiguration of production facilities at the plant.

Butler will be joined by other lawmakers and public officials Thursday, March 7th at 7:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn on 308 North Comrie Avenue in Johnstown.
