Boil Water Advisory in Utica Remains in Effect

UPDATE: 05/04/2015 10:15am The boil water advisories in effect for Utica and Deerfield have been lifted. The Mohawk Valley Water Authority says the water has been tested and is safe to drink.

Residents should still not drink discolored water that may have been in the pipes while the advisory was in effect.

Two boil water advisories in effect since Saturday in Utica will remain in effect, at least through this morning.

Water main breaks on both Steuben Street and Herkimer Road in Utica are responsible for implementation of the advisories.

Customers are advised to boil water for at least two minutes and then cooling it before it is used for drinking or food preparation.

In a posting on the Mohawk Valley Water Authority's website the MVWA advises customers "...against using any water that appears cloudy or discolored -- especially hot water, since such usage will draw the water into the hot water tank, which may require customers to flush their tank once clear water becomes available. Customers should also avoid washing their clothes in discolored water, since it may contain sediments that could permanently stain their laundry."

The first is in effect for Steuben Street in Utica between Leah Street and Arthur Street.

The second advisory is in effect for parts of North Utica, Deerfield, and Schuyler.
