Starting today, traffic heading northbound on the bridge carrying Route 8 over the S&W Railroad between New Hartford and Washington Mills will be shifted to the southbound bridge.

The State Department of Transportation says the move is being made to accommodate bridge construction.

Mill Street will be closed during construction and motorists will be directed to use the Campion Road or Kellogg Road ramps to Route 8 southbound.

The southbound bridge will carry one lane in each direction for the duration of construction, which is expected to last into the fall.
