Cause Sought For House Fire That Killed Central NY Couple
PARISH, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities are trying to determine what caused a fire that killed a central New York couple and destroyed their rural home.
Officials in Oswego County say the fire broke out around 8:45 a.m. Sunday in the town of Parish, 25 miles north of Syracuse.
Authorities say 49-year-old Richard Nicholas made it to a window and yelled for help but couldn't get out of the burning home. His body was found inside.
After firefighters extinguished the blaze they found a woman's body inside the home. Officials haven't released the woman's identity yet, but family and neighbors say the woman was Richard's 50-year-old wife, Verna.
