COHOES, N.Y. (AP) — The mayor of a small Hudson River city has been arrested on federal charges accusing him of using thousands of dollars in campaign funds for vacations, home repairs and other personal uses.

The Times Union of Albany reports the indictment Thursday charges Cohoes Mayor Shawn Morse with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, five counts of wire fraud and making a false statement to the FBI.

Morse pleaded not guilty in federal court in Albany and was released on his own recognizance.

The 51-year-old former city firefighter was elected mayor in 2015 and is running for re-election.

The Democrat is facing calls to resign.

Morse's lawyer said he would have no comment on the case.
