Cortland Man Accused of Punching a 72-Year-Old Woman

A 29-year-old Cortland man is accused of punching a 72-year-old woman in the face as she was crossing the street December 1.

Cortland Police arrested David Wegner and charged him with felony assault.

The woman was with a group of friends when Wegner allegedly approached the women at the intersection of Main Street and Clayton Avenue, said “hi” and punched the victim in the face.

She suffered a cut above her right eye that required five stitches.

Police say the incident was a random act and Wegner did not know his alleged victim.
