It is a Central New York tradition that helps thousands of children have a happy holiday.

The 11th Annual New York Sash Teddy Bear Toss takes place tonight at the Utica Memorial Auditorium as the Utica College Pioneers Men's Ice Hockey team takes on the Salve Regina Seahawks.

When the Utica College Pioneers score their first goal fans are instructed to their their teddy bears onto the ice, where they will then be picked up by the Teddy Bear Toss pickup crew.

The event is supported by Operation Sunshine, Marine Corps Toys for Tots, WUTR, Time Warner Cable, Utica Mack, and WIBX First News with Keeler in the Morning.

Although the game has been sold out since November, fans can still bring new, stuffed animals to the Utica Memorial Auditorium or to New York Sash.

The game can be watched online at: www.ucpioneers.com/watch.

The only year during which there was no goal scored by Utica College was 2014, and the Pioneers are anxious to never repeat that feat.
