HYDE PARK, N.Y. (AP) — The Culinary Institute of America in New York has announced they will teach aspiring chefs to not only cook but to create photogenic food with two new electives in food photography and food styling.

Food stylist Kersti Bowser, an alumna of the Hyde Park-area culinary school, says the classes will teach students how "how to cook for the still shot." The New York Times reports (http://nyti.ms/2xPep8P ) the classes will be introduced next spring after they have been developed by Bowser and photographer Phil Mansfield.

Mansfield says the classes will not be just Instagram-for-credit, and will require a number of skills.

Denise Bauer, a school dean, says the institute hopes the classes will prepare students for a broader range of careers in the competitive food industry.
