Amanda Meredith had been nominated for the judgeship by President Donald Trump in June. Hearings were held on the nomination by a Senate committee the following month. The full Senate confirmed her nomination in August.

Meredith, who was born in Binghamton in 1972, grew up in Endwell. She attended undergraduate and law school at SUNY Buffalo.

Meredith said she had moved to Washington, DC, for a clerkship at the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. In an email, she wrote that she had not expected that job to lead to a 20-year career in the field of veterans law.

Meredith said she will "work to provide justice in a fair, timely manner for the veterans, their families, and their survivors who have served and sacrificed for our nation."

Suzanne Meredith, the historian for the town of Union and the village of Endicott, is Amanda Meredith's mother. She said she is proud of her daughter and her accomplishments. She said "it is truly amazing... that's my little kid."
