Utica, NY (WIBX) - Get your flu shot. That's the message two local hospitals are trying to spread this flu season.

The Emergency Departments at Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare and St. Elizabeth Medical Center are seeing a spike in flu-like symptoms, prompting them to issue a few safety tips.

They suggest people cough and sneeze into the bend of their arm when tissues aren't available and to frequently wash their hands with soap and water.

Those with fevers are encouraged to stay home at remain there until at least 24 hours after the fever breaks.

And if you think you have the flu? Go to Urgent Care instead of the emergency room. By going to Urgent Care, officials say emergency rooms will be more capable of treating those with more serious ailments.
