Albany, NY (WIBX) - It's Weather Preparedness Week and FEMA is urging every New Yorker to "Be a Force of Nature."

Nearly 2,000 people were either killed or injured by tornadoes, floods, wildfires, and severe weather last year.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric  Administration sponsor the effort to get Americans to make a pledge to prepare for natural disasters.

Decrease disaster-related deaths and injuries by getting on board by making plans and communicating with family members about what to do in the event of emergencies.

Tips on creating a preparedness plan may be found at: www.Ready.gov/severe-weather.
