Another day, another food recall. An Illinois-based company is recalling more than 13,000 pounds of frozen pizza due to metal contaminants, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service. Home Run Inn Frozen Foods, located in Woodridge is recalling frozen meat pizzas that were produced on June 6, 2022.

33.5-oz cartons containing “Home Run Inn CHICAGO'S PREMIUM PIZZERIA DELUXE SAUSAGE CLASSIC PIZZA” with “best by” date “12/03/22”. The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 18498-A” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

These pizzas can be found at stores in New York State and around the country. Customers complained to FSIS about finding metal in their pizzas. There have been no injuries or illnesses reported. If you have any of the pizzas in your freezer, you should discard them or return them to the retailer where they were purchased.

If you have questions, you can contact Nick Perrino, COO of Home Run Inn Frozen Foods, at 630-783-9696, ext. 2151. You can also speak directly with the USDA by calling the Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-MPHotline (888-674-6854) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Eastern Time) Monday through Friday.

I swear, it seems like every day there is a new food recall. It makes me question why safety protocols and regulations are not being followed. Is the USDA actually doing any regulating or just sending out notices when food is being recalled? There is something broken in our food system.
