(WIBX) - Almost 80,000 Central New Yorkers will reach the age of 60 within the next five years.

That's according to U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who is announcing plans to enhance support services available to seniors through the Older Americans Act.

A key component of her plan is improving opportunities for seniors to "age in place," effectively allowing aging Americans to stay home, and away from nursing homes, for as long as possible.

Senator Gillibrand is requesting an additional $450million dollars annually to address the needs of seniors.
