A pair of state lawmakers have written letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, expressing concerns about the environmental and economic impact of a proposed hydropower project at the Delta Dam.

The City of Watervilet wants to build a $12 million hydroelectric plant at the dam, which would include an underground cable extension to the National Grid substation in Rome.

Senator Joseph Griffo and Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi say while the applaud the city for its efforts, the return on its investment from the project is minimal.

They say it's overwhelmingly outweighed by the potential disruption of the national resource and the loss to the greater Rome economy.
