Labor unions and environmental groups will come together at the state Capitol today to rally for stronger clean energy standards.

Central New York members of the NY Renews coalition are making the trip from Utica to Albany.

The groups are calling on the legislature to enact the New York State Climate and Community Protection Act.  Organizers say the state must create enforceable rules to reduce carbon emissions while working to increase clean energy.

John Furman, President of the Central New York Citizens in Action, said:  “NY Renews is harnessing the momentum of the September 2014 People’s Climate March, where more than 300,000 people marched through Manhattan.  We know that climate change is a non-starter in Congress and statewide action is the best route to effective policy.

Today's rally comes as lawmakers enter the final weeks of their legislative session.
