
Guard To Honor 19th Century President With Wreath On Grave
MENANDS, N.Y. (AP) — New York National Guard members are placing a wreath on former President Chester Arthur's grave to mark the 188th anniversary of his birth.
Guard members lay a wreath on Arthur's grave in Albany Rural Cemetery every year on his birthdate, Oct. 5.
This year's ceremony will be Thursday morning in the cemetery just north of Albany. A color guard will be present and a bugler will play taps.
Arthur served as president from 1881 to 1885. He was born Oct. 5, 1829.
