A Utica man is under arrest for arson after starting a fire in a vacant city-owned property.

29-Year old Brandon Cook, who is thought to be homeless, allegedly told police that he went into the building and started the fire to try to stay warm.

The fire got out of control and he had to jump from the second floor window of 954 Sunset Avenue.

The incident took place at approximately 6:00am on Saturday, December 14, 2013.

Cook broke his pelvis.  The building was fully engulfed by the fire.

Utica Police say that Cook is being charged with arson in the fourth degree, a felony.
