Lawmakers Respond To Oneida Nation Development Plans

Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney calls the Oneida Indian Nation development plans "irresponsible."

Tenney says the planned retail development will devastate the tax base in surrounding communities.

She says the unfair competition will erode the ability of communities to invest in schools, roads and other infrastructure.

Oneida County Legislator Chad Davis says gambling on a new mall is a bad idea.

Davis says the retail complex will create an unlevel playing field and  is a recipe for social, financial and tax base disaster down the road.

Davis says because the Oneidas are going to keep the sales tax, they have an unprecedented license to cannibalize all kinds of conventional business volume in central New York.
