The Mohawk Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross provided immediate assistance to a family of eight following a house fire in Utica.

Volunteers offered emotional support and comfort kits. They also provided financial assistance for shelter, food and clothing. The fire broke out on Newell Street on Sunday morning and the blaze displaced four adults and four children. The children were ages 1, 5, 7 and 17.

The local chapter of The Red Cross will continue to be available to help those affected by the fire in the coming days. The Red Cross relies on the generosity of local donors to help families prepare, respond and recover from disasters in the Mohawk Valley.
