Wampsville, NY (WIBX) - Many Central New York children will be starting their first day of school this week.

That's why the Madison County Sheriff's Department is urging motorists to drive safely and remember the rules of the road.

Madison County Sheriff Allen Riley says people should watch for flashing lights on school buses, especially red lights, which mean the bus is stopped.

Drivers should also be careful to watch their speed in school zones and be alert for children who may be crossing the street.

According to the Sheriff's Office, more than 23 million students ride school buses to and from school each day.
