New York City Mayor Michael Bloomburg held a press conference at 10PM Monday night to address the status of the city as Hurricane Sandy moves though the metropolitan area.

The mayor reported that many roads are flooded out.  However there is a large amount of stranded vehicles on city streets that are blocking emergency vehicles from getting through.

City residents are also urged to not call 9-1-1 unless there is a life-threatening emergency.  All other calls for assistance should be made to 3-1-1.

The mayor reported that the rain has mainly subsided and winds will drop before gale force soon.  The storm surge remains the greatest threat to the city.
